“The Pied Piper of Hamelin” is an old German legend about the abduction of the children from the town of Hamelin. I’ve already read different versions of this tale and some are darker than the others. For example, one version says that the children were lured into a cave and never seen again, while another says that they were made to jump into the water and die like the rats.

Krysar (The Pied Piper of Hamelin) is a Czech animated film by Jiri Barta. By far, this version is the grimmest that I have encountered. This is no kid’s fairytale as adult elements of human corruption, greed, lust, and violence are present. But, nonetheless, it is an excellent film. Below is the first of six parts of Krysar uploaded on youtube by subbedfilms.

Watch the rest of the film on the playlist here.
