Rally today and other news

10 Dec

Activist groups held a rally today in Cagayan de Oro city. They protested the violation of human rights in the handling of the Maguindanao massacre case. Similar protests had erupted ever since the violent crime broke into the news and had escalated when martial law was imposed upon that province this month.

In defense, the government stated that the martial law was necessary to dismantle the 3,000-strong private army of the Ampatuans. The move was also contested by the Opposition members in Congress, who say that it was unconstitutional, and that the so-called rebellion in Maguindanao does not exist.

With regards to the investigation of the massacre, a police convoy carrying evidence was ambushed in the Southern Philippines yesterday, but they only sustained damages to the vehicles and no casualties.
